Carolina Plandolit i Pelati

Carolina Plandolit i Pelati was the second wife of Guillem d’Areny i Plandolit, the third baron of Senaller y Gramenet, and one of the most well-known descendants of the Areny-Plandolit lineage, one of the most powerful families of the Principality of Andorra. Carolina Plandolit was his first cousin, betrothed to the baron following the tragic death of his first wife, Maria Dolors Parrella i Fivaller, who was killed by the Infantry Colonel, Blas Durana, as she did not return his love. From her marriage with the baron she had ten children, who maintained the D’Areny-Plandolit lineage through their surnames. Following the death of the baron in 1876, a dispute began between the children of the two marriages, which marked the beginning of the family’s decline. Carolina Plandolit was born in Sans, on a unknown date in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. She died in Barcelona on 9 February 1902.

The Principality of Andorra will be the setting for the 27th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, in November 2020, bringing together representatives of 19 Ibero-American countries, in addition to those of Spain, Portugal and the Principality.

In November 2018, Andorra took over the rotating secretariat of the Ibero-American Conference to coordinate the meetings, forums and events involved in the conference in the lead up to the 2020 Summit, jointly with the Ibero-American General Secretariat.Under the slogan “Innovation for sustainable development – 2030 Goal”, Andorra’s objective is to foster innovation in Ibero-America to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on the opportunities generated by innovation in the various areas of sustainable development, such as social, cultural, educational, environmental and economic aspects.

These meetings are an excellent opportunity for addressing multilateral issues, as they facilitate support and control among equals, shared responsibility and commonly recognised standards, while also providing a forum for dialogue and initiatives at the global level. They foster an atmosphere of trust among everyone involved that enables the sharing of experiences and the agreement of common positions on the challenges facing the region.

Andorra signed the treaty constituting the Ibero-American General Secretariat in 2005. This Summit therefore coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Principality’s active participation.

The stamp displays a design in the form of the Summit’s logo, featuring the Santa Coloma church.
