Switzerland Issued Stamp on International Year of Plant Health

The stamp depicts a Japanese beetle. This bug,which was introduced into Italy a few years ago, can now be found in Switzerland as well, in southern Ticino. Over 300 speciesof wild plants and crops are food for the Japanese beetle, including fruit trees andthe vine illustrated on the stamp. Thanks to the ve white tufts of hair on its side, it iseasy to tell the Japanese beetle apart fromthe garden chafer and the cockchafer.Anyone who spots this beetle must report it to the plant protection authority in their canton.
