Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, 1869 – 1948) was the leader of the Indian Independence Movement and is known as the Father of the Nation.
With his unusual yet powerful political tools of satyagraha (truth-force) and non-violence, Mahatma Gandhi inspired several other political leaders and movements for civil rights and freedoms across the world. Every year, his birthday, 2nd of October, is observed as the International Day of Non-Violence.
