New Stamps from Denmark

Childrens Songs

denmark-childrens-songs-stampsThe children’s songbook De små synger (The Little Singers) has had a place on the bookshelves in children’s bedrooms for generations. Four of the best-known illustrations in the songbook are soon being issued as stamps.

The popular songbook has long since become a classic within Danish children’s literature, and is at the same time a piece of Danish cultural history which – like Gummi-Tarzan and Halfdans ABC – is part of the Danish Ministry of Culture’s children’s culture canon under the Danish Culture Canon. Despite countless reprints, the book has preserved its original illustrations by the illustrator Bitte Böcher. And it is thanks to the drawings that the book remains the most popular songbook for families with young children.
