Niue Language Week 2016 runs from 16 to 22 October and the goal of the week is the maintenance, retention and development of Vagahau Niue (Niue language). The Niue Language Week stamp issue features everyday Niuean phrases alongside their English translations.
With the majority of Tokelauans living outside of Tokelau it is vital to encourage the use of the Tokelau language. 2016 marks the third year we’ve celebrated Tokelau language week with a set of stamps.
This year’s issue promotes Tokelau’s sustainable food system, featuring healthy food items grown or sourced locally in Tokelau. Each stamp includes one traditional food item as well as its Tokelauan and English name.
