Monaco Issued Stamp on Birth Centenary of Léo Ferré

monaco-leo-ferre-stampAuthor, composer, performer, pianist and poet: Léo Ferré is a prominent figure in French chanson. Born on 24 August 1916 in Monaco, he took an interest in music at a very early age and joined the Monaco Cathedral choir as a soprano. Too often remembered purely as a singer, Ferré was first and foremost a composer who was happiest leading an orchestra. But he was also a first-class poet, a performer whose voice penetrated deep into the soul of all who heard it, with a resonance full of love and rebellion.
