Belgium Issued Stamp on Poet Emile Verhaeren

belgium poet emile stampEmile Verhaeren, remarkable among of the brilliant group of writers representing “Young Belgium”, and one who has been recognized by the literary world of France as holding a foremost place among the lyric poets. To commemorate this great person Belgium Post introduced a special stamp depicting the portrait of the poet in an unusual manner.He was one of the most prolific poets of his era. His first collection of poems Les Flamandes was published in 1883. Inspired by the paintings of Jacob Jordaens, David Teniers and Jan Steen, Verhaeren described in a direct and often provocative, naturalistic way his country and the Flemish people.
