Guernsey Issued Stamp on Critically Endangered Philippine Eagle

guernsey eagle stampGuernsey Post issued a miniature sheet featuring Critically Endangered species under its Endangered Species series, Philippine Eagle, one of the world’s largest and most powerful eagles.The Philippine Eagle has been illustrated by world renowned wildlife artist, Joel Kirk, who has worked on all of Guernsey post endangered species stamps.

The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi) is one of the rarest species in the world and is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, with a wild population estimated to be fewer than 500.The Philippine eagle is a giant forest raptor endemic to the Philippines. It is considered to be one of the most powerful eagles in the world.This stunning bird of prey is found on only four of over 7,000 islands in this region – Luzon, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao.
