I visited Tsongmo lake last mont during my Sikkim visit. This lake is known as Chhangu lake and situated near Nathula border. It is a glacial lake about 40 km from Gangtok.Chhangu lake is situated on the hight of 12400 ft.
During the winter season the lake remains frozen. The lake surface reflects different colours with change of seasons. The lake is held in great reverence by the local Sikkimese people. Chhangu is also famous for a good destination for Yak riding. In local Bhutia language the name Tsongmo is made of two words ‘Tso’ meaning “lake” and ‘Mgo’ meaning “head” which gives the literal meaning as “source of the lake”.After returning from Chhangu I visited GPO Gangtok where I found a special cover released on Chhangu lake in 2008 .Blank covers are available at GPO.
