The U.S. Postal Service is dedicating two new stamps, one of which shows an iconic painting depicting Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox.Two descendants of soldiers present at the surrender – Dennis Bigelow, a descendant of Lt. Col. Chas. Marshall, Lee’s aide (pictured to Lee’s immediate right in the stamp image) and Al Parker, a descendant to Grant’s Military Secretary Lt. Col. Ely S. Parker (pictured to Grant’s immediate left) will be a part of the dedication ceremony.According to the Postal Service, nearly 11 million of these stamps have been printed.
