Governor Releases Special Stamps of Welfare Society for the Locomotor Disabled

kerala special coverGovernor of Kerala P Sathasivam launched the postal stamps brought out by the Welfare Society for the Locomotor Disabled by handing them over to District Medical Officer Dr K M Sirabudeen in the city on 25th February 2015.This year, the stamp is on the theme ‘cerebral palsy.’ Each stamp is priced at Rs 5 and will be sold through the Welfare Society and the health centres under the Department of Health throughout the state.The stamp release is done every year as a measure to raise funds to help differently-abled persons. During the release, the Governor had an interaction with Aadlin Sneha, a sixth standard student from Idukki affected with cerebral palsy, and Bhanu, who suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis hailing from Beemapally, both of whom had arrived to take part in the stamp release function.They are undergoing treatment at General Hospital in the city.

The funds raised from selling the stamps will be utilised for the welfare of the differently-abled, such as providing them with assistive measures like wheel-chairs, leg calipers and artificial limbs.The function was also attended by Health Department additional secretary K Sudarsanan; Director of Health Services Dr P K Jameela; and doctors in physical medicine Dr Bindu and Dr Anil Kumar.
