The U.S. Postal Service is commemorating the big birthday. It created a special postmark. A limited number of these vintage steamboat stamps with the Belle of Louisville cancellation were on sale Saturday.The stamps are from 1989.The Postal Service says it\’s a way to honor the steamboat\’s legacy and celebrate it\’s centennial birthday.The commemorative envelopes were only $2.
Customers wishing to obtain a postmark should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdi¬ness, and tuck in the flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to: PICTORIAL POST¬MARKS, LOUISVILLE POST OFFICE, 1420 GARDINER LN, LOUISVILLE, KY, 40213, Customers can also send stamped envelopes and post¬cards without addresses for postmark, as long as they sup¬ply a self-addressed or addressed to others larger envelope with adequate postage and their return address. After applying the pictorial postmark, the Postal Service returns the items (with or without addresses) under addressed protective cover.
