Turkey Issued Stamps on Galleons – Mighty Vessels of the Ottoman Empire’s Fleet

\"turkeyTurkey issued limited edition stamps on  Ottoman Galleons on10th September 2014.Turkey is a country blessed with long and beautiful coasts along three seas: the Mediterranean to the south, the Aegean to the west, and the Black Sea to the north. This is why the Ottoman Empire had a mighty fleet that consisted of different vessels. One of them isgalleon.

The galleon, on the other hand, was to know its days of glory only after Piri Reis’s time. These vessels, partly a development of the carrack on the one hand and of the galley on the other, had elongated hulls studded with cannons, and confronted each other in battles that were totally different from those traditionally fought in the Mediterranean.
