A stamp and commemorative cover was released to honour Sri Lanka’s cricketing sensation and stylish batsman Mahela Jayawardene.Postmaster General Rohan Abeyrathne told that following numerous requests from Nalanda College Old Boys’ Association, cricketers and wellwishers it had decided to issue the stamp.He said that they were not in a position to release a commemorative stamp due to the existing quota limitation—35 stamps per year.Jayawardene, who retired from Test cricket last month, is considered one of the most elegant right-handed batsmen in the world. The philatelic bureau of the Department of Posts has issued stamps in honour of Captain Cool, Arjuna Ranatunga, Spin Wizard, Muttiah Muralitharan and number of other cricketers after Sri Lanka’s world Cup victory and runner’s up title.(Source- The Island)
