Stamp Released on Lithuania’s EU Membership

\"lithuaniaLithuania has issued a stamp on 26th April to commemorate its EU membership.On May 1, Lithuania will celebrate its 10th anniversary of membership in the European Union.The new stamp issued in the edition of 80 thousand copies with a nominal value of LTL 2.15.

The stamp has been created by the artist Rūta Kajackaitė. The stamp features the EU flag – 12 stars in a circle on a blue background. The stars symbolize the ideals of unity, solidarity and harmony among the peoples of Europe.

The historical background of the European Union lies in the World War II. In 1950s, the European Coal and Steel Community started to unite European countries economically and politically in order to secure lasting peace.Initially, the six founders, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, cooperated mainly in the areas of trade and economy. At present, 28 EU member states with almost 500 million people are solving many other issues directly related with our everyday life.
