New Special Postmarks Issued by Royal Mail on St.George’s Day

\"stRoyal Mail has issued a special postmark for St George’s Day on  April 23rd.The postmark will feature on mail delivered to addresses in EnglandRoyal Mail has previously issued postmarks for St David’s Day and St Patrick’s Day.Saint George is identified with the ideals of honour, bravery and gallantry.It is believed St George was born during 3rd century AD, in Cappadocia, an area which is now in Turkey. He became a Roman soldier but later resigned and protested against Rome\’s persecution of Christians. Although he was imprisoned and tortured, he stayed true to his faith. He was beheaded on April 23rd in Palestine.The Council of Oxford in 1222 named April 23rd as Saint George\’s Day.The medieval tale of St George slaying a dragon is legendary. St George is said to have killed the dragon after it was terrorising a town in Libya.  His actions apparently led to the people of the town converting to Christianity.
