\"arubaAruba has issued a set of 6 stamps commemorating Salvador Dali, a groundbreaking icon of the Surrealist movement and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. His work probed the unconscious world of thoughts, dreams and perception in fanciful and nightmarish images influenced by Freud, Cubism, Futurism and metaphysical art.Extraordinarily imaginative, Dali also sculpted, and contributed to fashion, photography and theater. Nearly photographic, Dali’s art has been called the epitome of Surrealism.

The paintings by Dali featured on stamps are: The Persistence of Memory (1931), Surrealist Flowers (1938), The Swallow’s Tail (1983), The Hallucinogenic Toreador (1968-1970), The Elephants (1948) and Santiago El Grande (1957).
