Break Barriers – Open Doors
In September 2013, the United Nations General Assembly will hold a High-level meeting on Disability and Development to raise awareness about the work of the UN in ensuring the equality and inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society and development.A social media campaign “Break Barriers – Open Doors” will highlight how persons with disabilities can have a positive impact in their respective communities.
On 20 September 2013, the United Nations Postal Administration will issue six stamps on the theme “Break Barriers – Open Doors”. For this stamp issue, UNPA selected artists from around the world with incredible stories that highlight the positive power of full and equal participation of peoples with disabilities.
World Humanitarian Day
On 19 August 2013, UNPA will issue a special personalized stamp sheet to commemorate World Humanitarian Day. The sheet is composed of ten stamps in the denomination of US$ 1.10.The languages used on the sheet are: Somali, Arabic, Russian, Swahili, Urdu, Thai, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese and English.World Humanitarian Day is a time to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. The day was designated by the General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq.
19 August, 2013 marks ten years since that tragic event, which claimed 22 lives. This year, the international community will pause to remember those who died, as well as the dozens of aid workers, who have died in the years since.But World Humanitarian Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe.This year the UN and its humanitarian partners are launching a ground-breaking campaign called \”The world needs more…\” This is a first-of-its-kind project that will quite literally turn words into aid.
The \”World Humanitarian Day\” personalized stamp sheet will be provided to customers who have standing order requirements for New York special personalized stamp sheets (Art. 94). All other customers can purchase this item on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the United Nations has requested the issuance of a personalized stamp sheet in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Manila Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of International Disputes. The Declaration was the first important instrument of the work of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations. The US$ 1.05 sheet consists of ten stamps. They are exactly the same as the stamps of the Chinese Lunar Calendar – Year of the Dragon personalized stamp sheet.
