The faces of the new Irish are featured on a collection of stamps issued by An Post to celebrate Ireland\’s integrated society. The cover stars (above, clockwise from top left) include Garda Dongdong Zheng, originally from China and now a member of the force stationed at Swords garda station; Sammy Akorede from Nigeria, who is a Luas revenue protection officer; Polish national Anna Garciaz, who works in marketing with Permanent TSB; and hurling player Christian Tshibangu, a student at St Colmcille\’s SNS in Knocklyon, Dublin. The collection of 60c stamps were created by design firm Atelier David Smith .
Launching the stamps, An Post pointed to the 2011 Census, which showed that almost 600,000 non-Irish nationals were now living in the country and that, since then, over 30,000 of these new Irish had been conferred with Irish citizenship.\”This influx of migrants has helped shape a more socially and culturally diverse society and along the way transformed Ireland into a more inclusive, multicultural nation,\” it added. The stamps are available at Dublin\’s GPO, main post offices or at www.irishstamps.ie.(Source-Irish Independent)
