The Indian Air Force conducted its first ever day-night exercise and display its full combat capability during \’Iron Fist\’ at Pokran range in western sector in Rajasthan on 22nd February 2013. The President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh Defence Minister A K Antony, Air Chief Marshal NAC Browne and foreign military attaches of various countries witnessed the thrilling show.
225 Fighter, trainer and transport Aircrafts and Helicopters presented strength and potential of Indian Air Force during this exercise. Highly Advance Airborne Warning and Control System AWACS was used to monitor the mammoth exercise. Sky of Thar Desert witnessed the strength, power and capability of Indian Air Force. The thrilling show was started in the afternoon and continued for more than three exiting hours.
During the show fighter aircrafts successfully destroyed mock radar sites and neutralize mock terrorist camps by bombing and effective para dropping of NSG commandos. Surface to Air missiles were also the main attraction of the show. Newly inducted State of art training aircraft Pilatus PC 7 was a part of fly past during Iron fist. Apart from performances of MIG,Jaguar and Sukhoi aircrafts and Mi helicopters Light Combat Aircrafts Tejas and Rudra were also the part of event. Besides the fire demonstration, the Indian Air Force helicopter display teams Sarang and Akash Ganga presented thrilling performances of aerobatics while Sukhoi aircrafts formed a trishul formation in the sky. Vintage aircraft Tiger Moth, the first basic trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force was an attraction at the event.
