The United Nations Postal Administration has released six stamps and two envelopes on 2nd April 2012,commemorating the struggle against autism.They were designed by people diagnosed as autistic. Autism Speaks helped the UN find the artists, the UN said. They go on sale April 2. \”Autism is not limited to a single region or a country; it is a worldwide challenge that requires global action,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement. “People with autism are equal citizens who should enjoy all human rights and fundamental freedoms.”World Autism Awareness Day is set for April 2.
The United Nations is allowed to issue postage stamps through the UN Postal Administration in three currencies – the United States dollar, the Swiss franc and the euro. It is the only non-nation allowed to do so.
