World TB Day, falling on March 24th each year, is designed to build public awareness about tuberculosis. Even today, it remains an epidemic in most of the world, causing the deaths of several million people each year, mostly in developing countries like India. It commemorates the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch astounded the scientific community by announcing that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the time of Koch\’s announcement in Berlin, TB was raging through developed courtiers like Europe and the Americas, causing the death of one out of every seven people. Koch\’s discovery opened the way towards diagnosing and curing TB.It was really a breakthrough in medical field.
who,In 1996, the World Health Organization (WHO) joined other organizations to promote World TB Day. The Stop TB Partnership, called the Stop TB Initiative at the time of its inception, was established in 1998. It is a network of organizations and countries fighting tuberculosis. WHO works with this partnership on to support the activities and events that take place on World Tuberculosis Day each year.
