Special Cover\’s on Cricketers Released from Kolkata

\"\"Cricket Asssociation of West Bengal with the approval of CPMG,West Bengal released a special cover on 06.02.2012 on the cricket theme in the honour of Sh.Pahlanji Ratanji Umrigar, a legendry cricketer who served Indian Cricket as Selector, Administrator and Curator. Legandary cricketer was born on 28.03.1926. He represented India in 59 Test matches,in which he scored 3631 runs and took 59 wickets. He was the first Indian to score 3000 runs n more than three centuries in Tests. His highest score was 223 against New Zealand at Hyderabad in 1955-56.

\"\"Chief Post Master General West Bengal issued a Special Cover the 4th Special cover in the year 2012 on 10.02.2012 honouring legendary cricketer Nawab Mansur Ali Khan (1941-2011). He was the 9th Nawab of Princely State of Pataudi. He made his debut for Sussex County  at the age of 16 in 1957. He lost his right eye in a car accident while he was the Captain of Oxford University. But despite this huge loss he went on to captain India in 1962 when he was only21. He played in 46 Test matches for India scoring 2793 runs at an average of 34.91.His victories include India\’s first ever test match win overseas against New Zealand in 1968.He was rewarded with Indian Cricketer of the year in 1962 and Wisden Cricketer in the year 1968. He also captained Sussex in 1966.He breathed his last in the year 2011. The Special cover release function was held in Kolkatta n Smt. Sharmila Tagore his widow n  veteran Heroine of Indian Cinema was the Chief Guest in the function.
