Malaysia:OMG – New Stamps Aimed at Schoolkids

Kualalumpur: Pos Malaysia has embarked on a roadshow to encourage the hobby of stamp \"\"collecting among schoolchildren.The OMG Kembara Setem campaign is a collaboration with the Federal Territory Education Department and is aimed at promoting philately clubs in primary and secondary schools.OMG stands for Oh Memang Gempak, and is aimed at attracting youths to take up the hobby.Instilling interest: Head of Pos Malaysia Stamps & Philatelic Yasmin Ramli holding up some old stamps during a media briefing on ‘OMG Kembara Setem’ roadshow in Kuala Lumpur last week. The department’s deputy director Tajudin Makmor said it wanted to instil an interest in stamp collecting and knowledge of history.“Response to the stamp clubs initiated at five schools in Kuala Lumpur has been encouraging with more than 1,000 students joining,’’ he said, adding that the roadshow would run until Sep­tember.SK Jalan Kuantan 1 headmistress Saadiah Mohd Noh said the roadshow was a good start to revive a nearly forgotten hobby, especially in an age of technology.
