World famous Pushkar Fair will begin from today.The annual eight-day long fair will began with cultural performances by folk artists at the town in Ajmer district of Rajasthan. A \’Chak De Football\’ match between the teams of Indian and foreign tourists will be the centre of attraction. Camel ride, wrestling competition, water-pot race for women, rural sports competition and cultural programmes will also be held at the fair in the coming days.According to the Hindu calendar, the Pushkar fair takes place in the month of Kartika, beginning on the eighth day of Lunar calendar and continues till full moon.The Pushkar fair is one of the largest cattle shows in India and is known for its colour and gaiety. Lord Brahma is believed to have performed sacrifice at the Pushkar lake on Kartik Purnima (the full moon day of the month of Kartik). Multitudes flock to Pushkar to observe the ritual on Kartik Purnima .
