Ireland Issued Stamp on Birth Centenary of Brian O’ Nolan

 An Post issued a stamp  on 6th Oct 2011 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of\"\" Brian O’Nolan, also known as Flann O’Brien and Myles na gCopaleen, one of the great Irish humorous and satirical writers of the 20th century.The stamp is based on a portrait of Brian O’Nolan by his brother, Micheál Ó Nualláin, and was designed by Steve Simpson.Brian was born in Strabane, Co Tyrone. When he was young his family moved to Dublin and he was educated at University College Dublin. There he discovered his gift for humorous writing, but the early death of his father meant that he had 10 siblings to support, so he took a job with the civil service. He worked for his entire civil service career at the Department of Local Government, where he rose to a senior position in charge of town planning.
