Special Carried Cover Released at Siachen Glacier

\"\"Lieutenant General K T Parnaik, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command  visited forward posts in the Siachen Glacier during the second day of his visit to the Ladakh region on 4th Oct 2011. The Army Commander took a first hand account of the difficulties and challenges faced by the troops in extreme weather conditions. During his interaction with the troops, the Army Commander wished them and their families happiness and prosperity and applauded all ranks for their great service in maintaining the sanctity of the borders in the highest, coldest and most difficult terrain in the world. As the sentinels of the Nation your all round welfare is a priority and you should get all facilities as a matter of right, he said, adding that the Nation had great faith in them for facing challenges boldly. The Army Commander also witnessed delivery of a Carried Postal Cover at the Forward Landing Base (FLB) to an army unit deployed on the Glacier. A philatelic exhibition was organised at the Siachen base camp and a Special Cover was released to commemorate the occasion. General Parnaik was accompanied by John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu and Kashmir circle during this function. (UNI)
