Germany:Fossil Stamp

German Post has issued a stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the discovery\"\" of Archaeopteryx.The Archaeopteryx is one of the most famous fossils of the world. It was first described in 1861 based on an isolated feather impression. The subsequent discovery of nearly complete specimens shows its importance for evolutionary theory. As a transitional form between dinosaurs and birds, Archaeopteryx combines both in his physique as well as bird-reptile characteristics. The fossils of the first bird were found in Bavaria, the Franconian Jura. They are about 150 million years old. The best preserved specimen is preserved in the Berlin Museum of Natural History.
