In an announcement that would gladden hearts of numismatists and philatelists world over, Mangalore-based Corporation Bank on Thursday expressed its decision to broad base the collection of 1,360 varieties of coins and its section on stamps at its heritage museum in this temple city. The museum is negotiating with its employee Radhakrishna Kumble, who has contributed bulk of coins on display at the museum and other collectors across India.
It is the sheer perseverance of Radhakrishna, who, since December 1987, is laying his hands on all rare coins and collecting them. The value of coins on display at this museum, according to him is around Rs 42 lakh. As per his own assessment, this collection, although impressive, is incomplete. This is where the bank intends to step in and complete it so that Gen-Next has a slice of history for posterity, notes Ramnath Pradeep, chairman and director of the Bank.(Source-The Times of India )
