Schoolpex 2011 Concluded at Pink City

\"\"Special Report by Abhishek Jalan

4 days Schoolpex 2011 was concluded at Jaipur yesterday. The award ceremony started\"\" with a flower bouquet being gifted to the Chief Guest, Mrs. Sandhya Rastogi Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya School Sangathan Jaipur Region, MHRD, Govt. of India and an opening speech by the patron of the school. He gave brief note on philately. The Secretary of Philately Society of Rajasthan Mr. Rajesh Paharia said that school outside Jaipur and from major schools across the state participated. Rev. Father of St. Xavier’s School enlightened us with his words. The Chief Guest said that philately as a hobby helps us make friends, especially pen friends from different cities, states and even countries too. Stamps can be described as a great learning material as they tell us about different diversities, cultures, place and people etc.

\"\"It was regretting that there was availability of single India Post counter selling multiple items and five counters of dealers selling numerals postal stationary. Whether it was unavailability of merchandise at India Post Counter or surplus material at dealer’s counter, students were seen hovering over these counters which sold items at reasonably higher prices. The only thing I couldn’t understand that if students are made to deal with dealers at such an young age then who will visit the philately counters made across the nation I guess only dealers…!!They prey on these students and make their money. I think we philatelists have to step in and check the menace created by dealers and philatelists turned dealers. Overall the exhibition and award ceremony was good and went smoothly.

Abhishek, Nice live reporting .I felt that I have personally attended this schoolpex.Schoolgoing age group should be the target for bettermrnt of future philately by our dept of post. They should be properly taken care and guided, but unfortunately dept is exposing them to toxic material like dealers where after purchasing material at such high cost they will feel exploited and we may loose the future budding collector.

Philatelic exhibitions in Schools is very good attempt to promote Philately. We should incourage such activities. I fully agree that Dealers should be banned in these exhibitions.
