India Post is in Fun Mood

India Post has for the 4th time in this year revised its stamp issue schedule n programme. Again a new list is issued by India Post.  It has been decided to issue stamps on different themes. Is India Post so fickle minded that it cannot decide in one go as to how many stamps it intends to issue in one year. One can understand if due to some exigency it is compelled to revise the schedule in a year. But revising the schedule/ programme every now n then does not go well with the philatelic fraternity. It sends the signal that perhaps beaurocrats has more roles to play than the philatelists in Philatelic Advisory Committee. This revised schedule has approximately 33 stamps on personalities out of 66 stamps. This is in itself a violation of stamp issue guidelines framed n circulated by India Post on its official site. Rule no 6 lays down that not more than 10% of the stamps should be on personalities. It is another classic example of an old proverb that Rules are meant for breaking  .Rule no 9 lays down that by each n every philatelist as everyone has experienced this taste of India Post . Rarely stamps are issued on decided/ declared date. Even four stamps proposed by India Post on President House (RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN) this year have been postponed. Stamps on legendry heroines which were issued in Feb 11 had been included in the year colander of so many years. Two Stamps issued in May on India Africa joint dates of issue once fixed should not be changed. It needs no comments as it can be answered issue were never planned. In fact till date official site of India Post mentions/maintains that only 1 stamp is scheduled in the schedule for this event. Where our India Post will drive the philately n philatelist? God only knows n can answer.

Yes, India Post is revising the scheduled programme in the 11th hour. THE UNITED THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE was proposed to release on 2nd July, 2011, now it is postponed to 8th July 2011. Already instructions were issued to all General Post offices to prepare the Cachet(Cancellation) for Rashtrapthi Bhawan dated 25th July 2011. Why this 11th hour change is not clear. These types of decisions only making the pre-matured releases. What will be the faith of these stamps, when the nation is celebrating the 100th year of shifting the Capital from Calcutta (present Kolkata) to Delhi.

    • SUNIL KUMAR GARG says:

The extent of mismanagement at Indian Philately is extremely
astonishing. If they choose not to issue Rashtrapati Bhavan
stamps on schedule IndiaPost will only help the rigging.
As there are several stamps available at dealers & even on the internet not yet officially released .
