India:First Definitive Stamps

On 15thAug. 1949 – 2nd Anniversary of Independence first series of regular stamps was issued on Archaeological and historical Monuments to replace the existing King George VI series.Pie & Anna values weremin single colour.Rupee values in two colours all on Imported paper.

    Thanks Dr. Jain for the Aarchaeological Series Stamps of 1949.
    In my opinion they are still the best looking Definitives P&T
    (now IndiaPost) has done in the last 60+ years.
    Moreover, why are their mints so sought after & somewhat horrendously costly while the used ones going so cheap ?
    Also, FDC of Arch. Series stamps must be the costliest in the market while for example, a Sanjay Gandhi FDC issued in June 1981 can still
    be had for less than Rs.10.-.
    Beats me!!
