The U.S. Postal Service will start selling a Forever stamp from 20th May 2011 that commemorates 100 years of the 500-mile race with an image of Ray Harroun driving the the yellow and black Marmon Wasp to victory in the first Indy race in 1911.
The race race showcased some of the fastest, most advanced cars of the time. Engineering from the track often found its way to road cars. Harroun was a trailblazer in that he used a rear-view mirror on his car, which you can see in the stamp’s illustration. Many auto historians say this was the first known use of a rear-view mirror attached to a car.
