Stamp on 50 Year\’s of Royal Shakespeare Company

Royal Mail will release a set of stamps on 12th April 2011 to commemorate Golden Jubilee of Royal Shakespeare Company.The stamps will feature images and quotations from Shakespeare\’s plays performed by the RSC\’s leading actors from the past five decades.

They will include a first class stamp of David Tennant\’s Hamlet from 2008, a £1.10p stamp featuring Sir Ian McKellen and Francesca Annis playing Romeo and Juliet in 1976 and Paul Scofield\’s King Lear from 1962 illustrating a 76p stamp, accompanied by the play\’s famous quote: \”Who is it that can tell me who I am?\”A miniature sheet of stamps will also commemorate the RSC\’s four theatres in Stratford-upon-Avon – the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Courtyard, The Swan and The Other Place.They will feature images including Sir Patrick Stewart in a 2006 production of Anthony and Cleopatra at the Swan Theatre and Dame Judi Dench as Lady Macbeth in a production of Macbeth at The Other Place in 1976.Performances of The Tempest, Henry IV, A Midsummer Night\’s Dream and Henry V will also be commemorated on the stamps .
