By resolution of UN General Assembly 2011 was declared as International Year of Forests. The aim is, through various activities, to raise awareness about the need to strengthen the sustainable management, preservation and development of all types of forests for the benefit of present and future generations.
During the International Year of Forests a great emphasis is given to sustainable forest management as a necessary basis for all human activities. Forests and woodlands represent a great potential for the mitigation of climate change consequences, help to maintain biodiversity, provide a supply of fresh water and reduce risk of damage caused by natural disasters. The big challenge is to find solution for global problems in forest preservation and environmental protection for the benefit of present and future generations.
