Denmark Launches SMS Postal Stamps

People living in Denmark will soon be able to pay for a postal stamp just by sending a text\"\" message. The service which is due to go live on April 1st (interesting date to launch something like this) will enable people who don\’t have a stamp to stick on their letter, to send a text and receive a code to write on the envelope where the stamp would normally go.To receive a postage code, customers must send a text with the word PORTO to 1900, this will cost the price of a stamp and a standard text message. Codes must be used within seven days and only used to letters being sent to other parts of Denmark. Only letters up to 50g in weight can initially be sent using this system.

The service is not intended to replace stamps, but as a supplement for those in need of a stamp regardless of place and time.
