The Army Postal Service Corps celebrated its 39th Raising Day on 01 Mar 11. The Corps is solely responsible for providing Postal / SDS cover to all the entitled Units of the Desert Corps and FPOs of South Western Air Command (AF). APS Corps is committed to develop and publicize Postal Life insurance Saving Banks and Premium and retail product of India Post. Col AK Pandey, Director APS Desert Corps congratulated the APS personnel and their families on APS Corps Day and appealed to them to scale new heights in future. As a part of the celebrations, games/sports for APS personnel, entertainment Pgme and Barakhana are being organised.
The APS Corps has set many milestones by bringing new products, solely integrated to meet the needs of troops and units, including the latest technology services like the ePost for transmission of official and private mail and eMO for transmission of Money Orders of Jawan electronically are functional successfully in FPOs. Apart from these, supply of Newspaper / Periodicals at concessional rates by negotiating with reputed publishers of country, issue of Field Postal Orders similar to Bank draft at very nominal charges, Banking services through FPOs, Services such as Speed Post, Philately, Greeting Post, Pack Post Postal Life Insurance are another products which have been warmly welcomed by everyone. It is noteworthy that, only Postal Life Insurance has provision for ‘WAR RISK COVER’ along with higher rate of return without any extra premium. Recently Desert APS has launched e-Passport online processing of Passport Applications of Tps and their families in selected FPO.
To convert Field Post Offices into troops-friendly establishments, computers and peripherals have been incorporated and Modernization of offices has been undertaken, giving a facelift to the FPOs. Many FPOs are also working as eMO / ePost Centres to transmit Money Orders and letters of troops through the internet which has resulted in reduction in time taken in delivery and remittance of money.
