France commemorates Centenary of First Airmail

\"\"French Post released a stamp on 19th Feb.2011 in honor of Henri Pequet, who transported 100 years ago the first airmail. Henri Pequet, then aged 23, transported by air a mail to India. On February 18, 1911 the first flight carrying official mail aboard a biplane Hommer-Sommer took place. It took place during the Exposition of the United Provinces in Allahabad, India and lasted 27 minutes. It carried about 6,000 letters and postcards to Naini. On the stamp behind the portrait of Pequet, evocations of India (the tomb of Prince Khusrau and window) are transforming into folds and letters.
