The China Post has issued a series of stamps illustrating the Chinese Fengxiang New Year Woodprints.The Chinese Fengxiang New Year Woodprint is a type of popular folk woodblock picture produced in Fengxiang County, Shaanxi Province. Fengxiang New Year woodprints were originally created in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), some workshops engraved, printed, and sold New Year\’s pictures.The New Year paintings, made in the traditional way, have a primitive simplicity. Usually ancient models are used, such as \”Happiness Best owed from Heaven,\” \”Auspiciousness,\” and \”Wealth and Prosperity.\” The paintings are all handmade, colored in orange, green, and red.
