13th January is the Birth Anniversary of MELVIN JONESwho was the founder of world’s greatest service organization LIONS INTERNATIONAL. Melvin Jones was born on 13th January 1879 at Fort Thomas, Arizona. At age 33 he was the sole owner of his own insurance agency in Chicago, Illinois and became a member of the local business circle. On his invitation, delegates from some business clubs met in Chicago and on 7th June 1917, Lions Clubs International was born with 27 clubs from around the United States. His Association became international in 1920, when the Lions of Detroit chartered the Windsor Ontario Lions Club, in Canada. In 1950, Melvin Jones was conferred the title of Secretary General of Lions International for life. Since then Lions organizations have grown to over 1.33 million members in over 45,700 clubs in the 206 countries and geographical areas.
Melvin Jones died on 1st June 1961. His motto was \”WE SERVE.\”
