Mother Teressa \’\’Apostle of Peace\’\’,needs no introduction to anyone neither in India nor out of India. Mere mention of her name fills the heart with thoughts of a Humble Soul always smiling and ready to help one n all who needs her help.She was born on 26.08.1910 as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje Macedona in a Catholic Albanian family.In 1928, she joined the Loretto Convent where she was named Teressa.She was sent to India. She helped sick,dying, starving,destitute people, abondened babies,lepers etc.& established many homes for the needys.Mother was conferred Nobel Prize for Peace in 1979 and on 27.08.1980 India Post released a Commamorative stamp which is one of the few stamps released on living personalities released by India Post.
On 15th Dec. 1997, India Post issued Souvenier Sheet on Mother Teressa which again has the distinction of costliest stamp issued till 1997 and lone stamp issued in Souvenier Sheet form and not issued in sheet form till date.She died on 5th Sep. 1997 in Kolkatta. India Post issued definitive stamp in the denomination of Rs.20/= on 1st March 2009 and U S Postal Service issued a beautiful stamp in the denomination of 44 cent n First Day Cover was also cancelled and released.In Aug.1984 I met had the privilege to meet Mother at Missionaries of Charity in Kolkatta.She was taking her dinner. After some time she came n gave me the opportunity to spend 5 minutes with her.She gave me her autographed photo with her Blessings which is a part of my possession and her momento with me.
